Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development Spring 2024 Reading Club Session 5 | Unmet dental care needs among patients with diabetes in the United States: 2011 to 2020

On March 29,2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development successfully hosted the second session of the Spring 2024 Reading Club.The keynote speaker for this event was research fellow Yin Shi from Peking University Institute for Global Health and Development.7.jpg

The article presented in this event is“Unmet dental care needs among patients with diabetes in the United States: 2011 to 2020”.The study aimed to investigate the prevalence, predictors, and barriers related to unmet dental care needs in individuals with diabetes, as well as the potential impact of unmet dental care needs on health outcomes in the United States.

The study found that despite a recent decrease, over half of the population with diabetes still has unmet dental care needs, particular in those without insurance. The primary barriers to dental care needs are linked to cost and lack of insurance coverage. Unmet dental care needs greatly affect the physical, work, and emotional well-being of individuals with diabetes.
