Luyun ZHANG, Duke University, participated in research practice at PKU GHD from May to July 2025

"My name is Luyun, and I worked as a research assistant at Peking University’s Institute for Global Health and Development this summer. This experience turned out to be far more rewarding than I had expected. I engaged with leading-edge research projects that had not yet been published, attended lectures and seminars delivered by renowned scholars, and felt the deep satisfaction that comes with learning and discovery.

Equally meaningful was the community I encountered. The institute felt like an energetic and supportive family. Although students and researchers were immersed in diverse projects, they came together regularly to exchange ideas, share reflections on recent readings, and support one another both academically and personally. This atmosphere of collaboration and encouragement not only enriched my academic experience but also fostered meaningful personal growth.

Coming from a different academic background, I was especially moved by the intellectual depth and real-world significance of global health. This research assistantship has become a truly valuable chapter in my life — one that has deepened my appreciation for global health and affirmed its lasting importance."

Ou Ran, Fudan University, Participated in scientific research practice at the Global Health Development Institute (GHDI) of Peking University, June–August 2025

"My internship experience at GHDI has been extremely rewarding. As a prospective junior majoring in Statistics, I not only gained exposure to cutting-edge research topics in the global health field but also applied the knowledge I have learned to practical research projects for the first time.

During the internship, my primary responsibility was to conduct literature search and organization for research related to international reference prices of medical insurance. Through this work, I systematically learned search methods for both Chinese and English academic databases and gradually developed the ability to organize literature efficiently. Additionally, I assisted in tasks such as book proofreading, policy document classification, and meeting minutes transcription. These experiences honed my meticulous and rigorous approach toward scientific research.

This internship allowed me to personally experience the research charm of health economics—a interdisciplinary discipline—and understand the value chain from scientific research to policy implementation. I would like to express my gratitude to GHDI for providing this precious opportunity. The open and collaborative atmosphere of the Institute, along with interactions with faculty members, enabled me to grow continuously and acquire new knowledge."
