Born into a family with a long medical tradition, Dr. Zhang Kun brings over 25 years of management experience across the healthcare industry. His work spans hospital investment, greenfield development, post-merger operations, health information technology (HIT), and payer-provider (insurance-healthcare) integration. He has led a number of highly influential healthcare groups through strategic transformation or the building of new technology businesses—turning around the financial performance of large hospitals, steering the well-known mobile health company "Chunyu Doctor" back from the brink, and serving as President of a leading cosmetic and plastic surgery hospital group, as well as Chief Strategy Officer of a publicly listed pediatric healthcare group and CEO of its technology company.
Dr. Zhang founded Accenture's healthcare practice in China in 2005, and also served on the healthcare leadership teams at McKinsey & Company and IBM Consulting. He has led a number of first-of-their-kind consulting engagements in China's health sector.
As a thought leader in the healthcare sector, Dr. Zhang has an extensive record of publications, research projects, and teaching at a range of educational programs and top universities. Drawing on his business standing and academic reputation, he has built a strong professional network across China's healthcare industry. He currently serves as Vice President of the Medical and Health Industry Branch of the China Information Industry Association and as an Executive Member of the Youth Committee of the China Hospital Information Management Association.
Dr. Zhang is the author of Resilient Healthcare (China Machine Press, 2026, sole author), and has contributed to the compilation of numerous professional works, including Thirty Years of Hospital Informatization in China, Regional Health Informatization Development, New Compendium of Hospital Management, Hospital Management Science (2nd Edition)·Information Management Volume, and Practical Project Management for Hospital Informatization. He has published dozens of academic papers and industry articles in the fields of health informatization, telemedicine, and hospital management, including "China's Hospital Informatization Calls for Third-Party Consulting," "Being a Smart Hospital Group Manager," and "How Physicians Build a Personal Brand." He also runs the personal Blog "Dr. Kun Zhang Memo," where he has published several hundred articles on healthcare industry insights and hospital management, attracting a loyal readership of tens of thousands of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Zhang holds a degree in Clinical Medicine from Peking University, a Master of Science in Health Service Management and Health Informatics from the University of Warwick (UK), and a Master of Health Science (MHS) and Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Health Policy and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (graduated with honors on the qualifying examination).
